Women could be missing out on big savings by failing to shop around for car insurance at renewal. Despite around three quarters of female drivers in Britain having earned four+ years No Claims Discount, only half (54 per cent) actually shop around for car insurance. For women, searching for comparative quotes is the best way to ensure that they are being fully rewarded for their safe driving.

With an average saving of £88 made on car insurance for women with four+ years no claim discount, those that don’t shop around run the risk of missing out on a combined total of £491m compared to those who do research their insurance premiums.

However, it seems that car insurance for women is not always a top priority, borne out by the fact that so many fail to capitalise on their history of safe driving. Even drivers that have just one year’s No Claims Discount can often make a good saving, so the potential discounts available for those with four years or more NCD can be significant.

However, car insurance for women is often reduced to gimmicks such as handbag cover or the provision of ‘female friendly’ mechanics. Female-only specialists are not always the cheapest providers of car insurance for women, particularly for those with four years or more No Claims Discount.

Car insurance for women is cheaper on average than for their male counterparts. That’s because, although they make only marginally fewer claims, the average claim on car insurance for women is significantly lower.
